The Foreign Credentialing Commission on Physical Therapy (FCCPT) offers three primary services. Each service involves:
- Development and application of uniform standards for evaluating the credentials of foreign educated physical therapists (FEPTs) who wish to reside in the United States and work as Physical Therapists (PTs).
- Acquisition of the systems, processes and expert human resources required to validate the authenticity and accuracy of all FEPT credentials and to certify that they are equivalent to those required of a licensed physical therapist educated in the U.S.
- Reporting of evaluation results to our customers in a convenient, timely and cost-effective manner
FCCPT's primary customers are foreign educated physical therapists (FEPTs), physical therapy licensing agencies, and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).
These are the three primary services, followed by a general description of each:
- FCCPT Comprehensive Credential Evaluation (Type I Certificate) for the Physical Therapist
- FCCPT Visa Credential Verification (Type II Certificate) for the Physical Therapist
- FCCPT Credentials Review for the Physical Therapist
FCCPT Comprehensive Credential Evaluation (Type I Certificate) for the Physical Therapist.
The FCCPT Type I Certificate is issued to an applicant who is seeking a permanent immigrant visa to live in the United States, and who is seeking licensure to work as a physical therapist in one or more U.S. jurisdictions. It involves a comprehensive (course-by-course) educational evaluation, demonstration of English proficiency, verification of current licenses in both the country of a person's physical therapy education and in the U.S., and a review of the National Physical Therapy Examination score transfer report. A certificate is issued when the approved guidelines of the FCCPT are met. These guidelines meet or exceed minimum education requirements for licensure in most U.S. jurisdictions, as well as the requirements of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), as specified in Section 343 of the 1996 Illegal Immigration and Responsibility Act.
The following states require Type I Certificates:
- Louisiana
- Minnesota
- North Dakota
- Tennessee
FCCPT Visa Credential Verification (Type II) Certificate for the Physical Therapist.
The FCCPT Type II Certificate is issued to an applicant who currently has a temporary visa to reside in the U.S., is licensed as a physical therapist in one or more U.S. jurisdiction, and who is seeking a permanent immigrant visa. It involves a verification of education, demonstration of English proficiency, verification of current licenses in both the country of a person's physical therapy education and in the U.S., and a review of the National Physical Therapy Examination score transfer report. A certificate is issued based on the requirements of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), as specified in Section 343 of the 1996 Illegal Immigration and Responsibility Act.
FCCPT Credentials Review
The FCCPT Credentials Review is conducted for an applicant who has been educated in a foreign country and is seeking licensure in a specific U.S. jurisdiction. The review is a comprehensive (course-by-course) educational evaluation based on the requirements of the specific jurisdiction where licensure is sought.
